There are two ways you can start a blog:

  1. Just start and be happy that you get to write
  2. Follow a plan so that you’re blog goes somewhere

I can’t speak to #1 because there is no need. If you want to start a blog for fun then by all means, have at it. However, if you plan on spending time with a blog and for you time is money, then let’s come up with a plan for that.

Before we begin though a solid question to ask is do people still read blogs? And the simple answer is yes. I mean, look at you right now!

The longer answer is that people read the resources that will help them so as long as your blog becomes a place that your audience can learn and gain what they need from it, then it will be something that people read.

The only problem with a blog is the name itself. Blog. Blah.

The reality is that a blog is nothing more than a website that gets updated with content. But if you can view it was a library that gets new books in every once in a while then it becomes easier to understand why people love to read blogs.

So when you’re starting a blog don’t think about the idea of a personal blog. Think about the business that you’re about to build.

Why Start a Blog

People would like to believe that the best reason to start a blog is to write about your passion. Whether it’s a travel blog, food blog, or a fashion blog, blogging provides an avenue for individuals to share their passion with the world.

And this a fun way to look at a blog but it’s not what I talk about here. I think the you should start a blog to help you make money and whatever comes with that money.

For some it’s hard to imagine how blogging can help with that but that’s because they don’t understand how far blogging can really take you.

We live in a world where the best currency is attention. The more attention you can get from people the better opportunities you have to make money.

But with social media consumption at all-time high it’s easy to still not believe that blogging is a way to grab people’s attention. I feel ya.

However, you’re not here because you want to create an entertainment media company. You’re here because you’re a thought leader. Even if you don’t see yourself as one yet.

And the best thing that you can do is create long-form content that sticks around forever. This type of content also helps to build your trust and authority with your audience making it a lot easier to make money.

Think about this. You write a blog post today and publish it. A year from now, people are still linking and talking about that blog post. It’s still generating traffic for your site and it’s still making you money.
