Why Time Is Infinitely More Valuable Than Money

Let’s see if we can change your perspective on the precious commodity that is time. What would you do if you had more time? Why don’t you have enough time even though you silently recite the quote that you have the same 24hrs in a day as Beyoncé? Do you work endlessly to have enough money only to turn around and not even have ample enough time to spend it on anything but debt & bills? Or worst yet, not enough money to make ends meet at all? Here we’ll break down why time is infinitely more valuable than money & the simple code to having more of both.

As far as that Beyoncé quote is concerned, it’s actually the truth for everyone walking this Earth because time doesn’t discriminate. We all get the same 24hrs & there are no exceptions to this rule no matter what part of the world we’re in & no matter our circumstance. The girl is a BEAST & arguably the hardest working woman in showbiz. However, what that quote fails to mention is that Beyoncé runs a well oiled machine. She has systems & teams in place where she doesn’t have to do everything herself.

More than likely that’s not you. Hell, at this point it’s only halfway me. I have systems in place but no teams. Reason being: not only am I a recovering control freak but I am also a recovering perfectionist. That’s 2 things working against my time & efficiency but the first step to change is to admit that something actually needs to BE changed. I will eventually but I’m still nursing my business babies and am simply not ready to take them off the boob haha.

While those are the only 2 things I can think of that remain in hindering the change to my relationship with time, I have long been further ahead in the ‘time over money’ game than anyone I know IRL because of my mindset & desire to remain as free as possible.

Quickish backstory

On launch day, a personal story of mine was here in this space & it flowed awesomely but I decided it needed to be a separate post so: STOP RIGHT HERE & READ THIS, then hit the back button & continue!

Time is King

Time is infinitely more valuable than money because:

  1. Once time is gone, you can’t get it back.
  2. It’s finite & you don’t know when it will expire.
  3. Studies show that people who prioritize time over money are happier & have better social lives.
  4. You need time to make money – and vice versa – but I’m specifically meaning the time to decide your path to wealth, invest in yourself via continued education, & develop/sharpen your skills.
  5. My dad. I bet that caught you off guard but let me explain haha! I saved this one for last but it’s hardly least. From birth up until my parents divorced when I was 10 years old we were spoiled. But when they became single parents, my mom always seemed to be the one going the hardest to provide. I remember us always getting into arguments with my dad because financially he wasn’t doing enough. But he was ALWAYS there. He took us to every football game, escorted us in every homecoming court, & every special event of ours that I can think of. When I got to college, what he couldn’t do for us financially stopped mattering. The time spent and memories do. & especially now that he has passed away.

For the sake of putting this topic more into perspective, let’s break down a traditional work week. There are 168 hours in a week. At minimum if you’re a full time employee, you work 40 hours/5 days a week. Let’s just say that you need 8 hours of sleep. That’s 56hrs a week. Already, you’ve used 96 hours.

Not only is there the work but there is the work prep. Therefore, we must not forget to account for the time it takes to rise, have breakfast/coffee, shower/get dressed, and the commute to & fro. That may take 4 hours total over a 5 day period that’s 20 hours. Hour lunch breaks 5 days a week are 5 hours total. Now you’re up to 121 hours out of 168 leaving 47 hours. Don’t forget to account for non work related everyday things like cooking, eating, grocery shopping, gas fillups & bathroom breaks.

What if your free weekend time ends up NOT being time for leisure at all because you were so overworked during the week that now all you want to do is nothing? I broke this down to show how easily time drains and why it’s so important to re-evaluate what’s worth it so you can pour into things that accelerate wealth.

Money Galore: It’s Bread Trucks; Get Up Off that Crumb Sh!t

You hear often that money isn’t everything. This is true. It isn’t. There is family, your health, your peace of mind/overall happiness & the freedom to do what you want when you want. Those 5 things are what translate to real wealth for me. I can think of a number of things I care about more than money but having money allows for the time needed to really enjoy or tend to the aforementioned things.

It’s not ideal but that’s the world we live in. Without money your family may go without, you may not be able to see a doctor when your health fails, and you worry constantly spending your time trying to make ends meet.

The problem with money is that so many people believe that it’s scarce when really the rainbow that leads to the pot of gold is what’s the most illusive. & it’s not because it’s hard to figure out but because the system has done a great job of selling you a lie to keep you trapped. Money is aplenty! At any given time there are trillions & trillions of dollars floating about this earth. You simply need to put your name on it. Know what isn’t quite so abundant? TIME. And what makes time even more of a rarity is that we have no idea when ours will be up. We can be here today and GONE today. Meanwhile so many of us are out here living like time is forever but this is not a rehearsal. This is the show.

More than likely, you were born to parents that believed that you’re supposed to slave away your life working for the man & then once you’ve chipped away at your youth, health, & lust for life you can finally retire with a little nest egg to enjoy the fruits of your labor. I don’t know about you but I want it all & I want it NOW.

I’ve taken the long way to things a lot in my life just bc I had the expertise to do them and now I don’t have the energy to invent new wheels where I don’t necessarily have to. I seek out models that can make me money faster without having to spend endless hours creating them only to then have to worry about if they will even sell.

Digital products that are already done for you and proven to make sales are my newest weapon of choice and the way my income has skyrocketed since adding them to my arsenal of wealth building assets has been insane!

Doesn’t it just stand to reason that time is simply more precious because we have no idea when we’re going to be out of it? Even with all my free time, I often still feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. So I know that if I feel that way with all my free time that those with traditional jobs & kids often feel they have way too many things to do and not enough time to do them.

Things that rob you of your time:

  • Social media
  • Watching TV/Netflix
  • Sleeping too long
  • Playing video games *I deleted all games off my iPhone yearssss ago but a Tetris ad almost got me lol*
  • Cutting coupons

Things that rob you of your money:

  • Rent/mortgage(yeah I said it)
  • Car note
  • Student loan debt
  • Utilities
  • Credit card debt
  • Spending to look rich(which stops you from being rich)
  • Instant gratification for overpriced luxuries you really cant afford

The code to having more of both

I decided long ago that I’d rather trade money for time than trade time for money. You can’t buy time in the sense that you can purchase extra years onto your life. However, you can absolutely pay to free up the time you do have. Create a lucrative product and set up automations/systems to sell it over and over passively. When your wealth generating assets are on autopilot, you can focus more on what you’d rather be doing.

As mentioned earlier, while I don’t have a team I absolutely do invest in outsourcing small tasks & the automation of things I choose not to manually do. For example, I outsource the removal of items from their backgrounds(photos) for my Glamber Alert blog collages because while I’m pretty proficient with Photoshop’s pen tool, I’ve always found the task to be dauntingly time consuming. An automation example is that I pay for Flodesk for email marketing or an unlimited Tailwind subscription to run my Pinterest strategy. Click here to see more of my favorite business tools!

You will no doubt need to start out trading time for money but you must break the code to wealth & in doing so, reverse the flow. You do this by managing your free time & money more wisely. Stop doing things that rob you of your time and put it into systems(both in business and at home) that will give you more freedom & make you more money. It’s about making sacrifices & doing the things most people won’t to live the life that most people can’t.

If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, the simple explanation is that your expenses/debts outweigh your income &/or you are not using the time you have to find the light at the end of the tunnel. If you read my quickish backstory, you know I’ve dealt with my temporary traditional jobs leaving room for little more than making sure my bills were paid. Is there anyone you can stay with that will give you a space where you’d be out of their way? Can you manage to get around even if you don’t have a car? Are you investing in courses to further your education? What are you willing to give up to go all in creating your dream life of freedom & fortune?
